Frankfort Strong (flood of 2025)

Living in a river town, one gets used to floods.  Everyone checks on flood levels, enlists friends and family to help move, stocks up on essentials and prepares for wet basements and closed roads.  So when it started raining in early April, Frankfort once again prepared for a flood.

However, little did we know that with over 12 inches of rain in five days, we would be facing a FLOOD - the second worst flood in history.  Over 600 Frankfort homes were flooded, many businesses were damaged and people lost their lives.

Here at Completely Kentucky, we closed on Sunday April, 6th to help our neighbor, the Kentucky Coffeetree Cafe, empty their basement (holy cow there was a lot down there!).  We brought the tables from our meeting room to store their supplies and inventory (and the liquor - which was first to be evacuated, btw).

Hermalyn, the store manager, sent out a plea online for help and soon many appeared.  It was all hands on deck!  Completely Kentucky staff moved our inventory up past the level of the 1938 flood, just in case our earthen flood wall breached.

Pictured below is how close the river water was to the top of the 51 foot flood wall. This was on second street near the Singing Bridge.

On the high side of the Singing Bridge, the courthouse flooded (for the first time ever). The employees and judges worked until after midnight moving records. Sand bags were piled to stop the water and protect the Main St businesses.

After the waters receded, the devastation was heartbreaking.  Many of our neighbors have lost everything.  The community of Frankfort has stepped up to help with donations of money, furniture and supplies.  So many were helping people gut their flooded houses that the Health Department went door to door giving tetanus shots.  Completely Kentucky even passed out boxes since we have a room full of shipping supplies.

Thanks to everyone's amazing support we continue to be Frankfort Strong.
