Mangloña becomes owner of Completely Kentucky

Candy wasn’t the only thing changing hands on Halloween in downtown Frankfort. Hermalyn Manglona has become the new owner of Completely Kentucky, a beloved fixture on Broadway for 35 years. “I’m really excited — and a bit scared — but totally ready for this new chapter in my life,” said Manglona, who takes over from Ann Wingrove, the store’s founder. Wingrove opened Completely Kentucky in November 1990 and has grown it into one of the state’s most recognized showcases for Kentucky-made art, crafts and foods.  “I couldn’t be more thrilled that Hermalyn will be heading Completely Kentucky,” said Wingrove. “She knows everything I’ve learned and has a fantastic attitude and energy. It will be exciting to see what she does next.” From their first meeting, Wingrove knew Manglona had the perfect personality for retail — 100% customer-focused.

When asked about her plans for the store, Manglona said, “With the holidays coming up, we’ll have lots of new work from new artists. We’ll continue helping our business customers with their corporate gifts, and we’re expanding our website for our out-of-town customers.”

What started as a birthday treat four years ago turned into a complete career change for Manglona. On her birthday, she stopped into Completely Kentucky to find something special. Katherine Thomas, one of the store’s managers, asked if she might be interested in part-time work — and that simple question led to Manglona eventually purchasing this iconic business.  Suzy Hosley, executive director of Downtown Frankfort Inc., was among the first to congratulate the new owner.

“I’m so happy that this amazing art staple in our downtown will continue,” Hosley said. “Completely Kentucky sets the tone for charm and class downtown.”  Hosley also praised the ongoing community involvement of both Wingrove and Manglona. The store, open seven days a week, often extends hours to support downtown events.  Completely Kentucky represents more than 600 Kentucky artists, craftspeople, artisans, and gourmet food producers. Every item sold is locally made by Kentucky family businesses — a tradition Manglona is proud to continue

“One of my favorite things about the store is all the relationships that exist between our makers and customers,” Manglona said. “People love supporting local artists and appreciate the creativity and uniqueness of their work.”
